Pardon the Mess (free embroidery pattern)

Mess Embroidery

Inspired by this Sew Mama Sew post  and a particularly messy industrious day on the part of my kids , I decided to stitch a phrase from my collection of phrases.  It was nice to finally have some hand work to do again.  I’ve been doing embroidery for so long now that most of my projects are somewhat involved time, materials and concentration wise, which doesn’t work well with a one year old.   This was stitched on muslin with DMC colors (3354, 744, 703, 3755, 155).  Using all 6 strands gave it more texture and a sort of messy look.  If you want something a bit more polished looking you could  use 3 or 4 strands, more care in lining up the fabric grain and keep more precisely to the pattern (which you can find below).  Paint fingerprints from the kids may be added as accents on this before it is fitted in its hoop and hung up.  Perhaps I could work this into a garment somehow and they could just redecorate it, each time I wear it, with the usual chocolate, peanut butter, berries, mud and snot…
